Bio
After studying The Great Books of the Western World at St. John's College in Santa Fe, Mike holed himself up in his bedroom and crafted multiple albums worth of acoustic pop songs and electronic compositions. But after a year's time back in his hometown in Orange County, struggling to put a band together and produce the perfect CD, Mike decided it made more sense to get a computer job in the 'real world' and headed up to San Francisco. As fate would have it, he wouldn't land a computer job either and through a series of coincidences, he ended up joining a yoga monastery as a novice monk. After dedicating many months to spiritual pursuits, he was irresistibly pulled back to his music again. Back at square one in his hometown but armed with new found knowledge, Mike began to integrate his spiritual understanding into his musical path. He formed a band and recorded a demo. He booked gigs opening up for his musical idols. And as he completes his first full length recording 'Making The Way Back Home', co-produced by Mike, Matt Forger (Michael Jackson) and Nate Wood (Kneebody), he's making serious progress towards fulfilling his original dream.
Heavily influenced by the Dave Matthews Band, the music of Mike Baas is an amalgamation of the outstanding musicianship of jam bands and thoughtful earnest pop (a la John Mayer). As a multi-instrumentalist, Mike is an adept singer, a dynamic acoustic guitarist and a classically trained pianist. His reflective songs attempt to evoke a sensation of space that pulls the listener out of the ordinary for a time and into a world where life's purpose really matters.
When playing as a full band, Mike is joined by Alec Bridges on electric guitar, Kirwan Brown on bass and Adam Gust on drums.
To date, Mike has shared the stage with Toad the Wet Sprocket, Matt Nathanson, Tim Reynolds, Marcus Eaton, The Samples, Jay Buchanan, Alec Bridges, Jason Feddy, Brett Bixby, and Deccatree.
